脫氫表雄酮(DHEA)是由17-羥基孕烯醇酮的側(cè)鏈裂解產(chǎn)生的一種17-酮類固醇。DHEA可逆性轉(zhuǎn)化為其硫酸鹽形式(DHEA-S)和雄烯二醇(Androstendiol)。人類腎上腺同時分泌DHEA和DHEA-S，而DHEA-S又是雌激素和雄激素類固醇的前體。DHEA與許多生理狀況有關(guān)，包括抑郁癥、系統(tǒng)性紅斑狼瘡和類風(fēng)濕性關(guān)節(jié)炎。
